Besides the Observatory on Italian Treaty Practice on Migration Related Issues, the 2020/2021 International Human Rights Legal Clinic focused on two other projects. The first group worked on a Submission to the Third Cycle of the Universal Periodic Review of Thailand, which is a mechanism of the United Nations Human Rights Council to monitor the human rights situation in all the member States, done in partnership with Scholars at Risk (SAR). They focused their attention on violations of academic freedom, freedom of expression and freedom of peaceful assembly occurring during the latest pro-democracy demonstrations. The same group took part in another porject, as well. It was focused on the Communication under the Special Procedure of the Human Rights Council concerning gross violations of human rights occurring in Belarus. In particular, they cooperated with SAR in analyzing the oppression of scholars and academics after the controversial elections held in August 2020. The other project, instead, was about the “Call for submissions: legal status of Israeli settlements under the Rome Statute”, launched by the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian Territory occupied since 1967. After the Call, the Special Rapporteur presented his thematic report at the June/July 2021 session of the Human Rights Council.
